During the International Amateur Radio Union Regional 1 General Conference 2023 in Zlatibor, it was decided to change the name to “Program for Disabled Radio Amateurs, PDRA”. The Information Programme for Disabled Radio Amateurs is set up by the General Conference. Its aims are the gathering and circulation of information about:
- organizations for disabled radio amateurs
- special courses and methods for preparing people with disabilities for the examinations required to obtain radio-amateur license
- nets organized by disabled radio amateurs
- details about equipment that was designed for use by amateurs with various disabilities.
The IDPD chair committee at IARU-R1 is Riri OD5RI.
Historical Overview- 2015 - The Hungarian Radio Amateur Society (MRASZ) was the first society worldwide to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities by using the callsign HG0IDPD. They QRV in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022.
- 2021 - The Royal Belgian Amateur Radio Union (UBA) was the second society worldwide to celebrate this event and issued the callsign OT5IDPD.
- 2023 - The Bahrain Amateur Radio Society (BARS) was the third society worldwide and the first society in the Arab Countries & Middle East to celebrate this event by using the callsign A91IDPD.
The PDRA Committee hopes that other IARU societies will participate in the coming years.
